Re: WFRP 4 analysis

Thanks for your answers. It's a pity you don't know DH rules in this case, it added a lot of modifiers hunt and thus tactical approach to the combat where those modifiers were well-tied to the fiction and not abstract minigames or metacurrencies. Hence it maintained low stat PCs that are always depe...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

... Oh well, here's hoping that the 5ed is better. LOL! :D :D :D To be honest, after trying for over six months (and I consider myself very rules-crunchy) my best advice would be to give up on 4E and port over three things to 1st Edition: 1) the careers system - I initially disliked it, but since m...

Re: Zapp's house rules collection

..... a peek preview! :) - advantage is something you either have or don't have. If you have it you have +20. If you lose or spend any advantage, you no longer have advantage at all. Rationale: unlimited Advantage does not work at all. Limiting it still meant clutter and detail, that still unbalanc...

Re: Fixes for Ashes of Middenheim

(SPOILERS!) - The final piece is, well, the same old ritual to summon a demon. How many WFRP adventures end this way? We just played through Ill Tidings (from Knights of the Grail), and the ending is awfully similar; - The main enemy is a stranger to the PCs, so either the GM does not provide clues...

Re: Fixes for Ashes of Middenheim

When my group has played through it, we thought it was quite servicable as written, certainly not in any need of "substantial changes". I recognize that not everybody will like the same stuff, so it might be better if you listed the stuff you don't like or want to change. We also played it as it wa...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

Yes, because opposed rolls are rolled simultaneously and you compare level of success. The other way was: roll, check if you succeed, then make a second roll for parry or dodge and check again if you succeed. In addition, now there is no need to roll for damage, as you get it from the difference of...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

Pretty much what Orin wrote. It's not as much a matter if personal taste as a matter of statistical facts. You chose a dice mechanic? Fine, there are consequences for that. I'm not sure anyone in C7 was really aware of what opposed d100 rolls with DoS really meant to the game. @Capnzapp: I almost fe...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

What I strongly dislike is making every interaction into an opposed roll. That simply is unworkable in my opinion. Not to mention how rolling twice instead of once makes the roll MUCH more swingy. Let me rephrase: mandating that every NPC should make a roll to determine the difficulty of the Charm,...

Re: Attempt to correct the whiff factor: A ToHit Chart

How much I would like a statistical analysis for 4th edition opposed rolls distribution VS your table, in this moment :) I second Bitsa in his idea that the key is making situational modifiers more interesting, statistically significative. This way you make tactical choice more meaningful while keep...

Re: Return of the Gnome

I am also very negative about this addition. When I started playing wfrp in 2005 I wanted a fantasy game that was grimdark and as far as possible from D&D. In fact I didn't introduce halflings until years later. I didn't need any homage to Tolkien nor D&D and until I got that halflings in wfrp had t...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

I don't plan to play 4th, the metacurrency aspect of Advantage and the metagame it creates is existentially incompatible with my idea of roleplay. I don't even know if I ever have the chance to play RPGs again to be fair :D I personally always give modifiers to "every day" skill rolls related to the...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

In my games we don't feel whiff factor as a problem to be fair, but I can see it can be one. Having said this, did anyone tried so simply rise %values by 10 or 20 in the entire game (PCs, NPC, monsters...)? Could this solve the whiff problem? I'm saying this because there are enough modifiers in the...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

In 4E a +40 bonus is obscene, and completely overshadows your own abilities, twisting the game into a "hunt the bonus" metagame that should burn in hellfire. And THAT is the phrase that effectively sums up the impression I got reading fanatic (pro) reviews. I got that feeling reading among fans sen...

What do you learned gentlemen think? Adding Johann Esmer to the mix increases the epicness of the campaign (the plot of the Two Theogonists was never taken up post-Storm of Chaos) by having a Grand Theogonist involved with the Crusade.

Just finished reading part V: amazing job, I'm a big fan of your work! !!

Thanks for sharing it!

Edit:

PS: does the look-alike plot hook get developed in the Companion? Probably I missed that part if so...
I think let that falling to nothing it's one of the biggest writing mistake of the whole TEW

Actually - if you use the original rules from 1st edition that is pretty much the norm.
I realized this was a 1st edition topic :D
I played 2nd...sorry.

Hiwever my approach would be the one I've described: PC down, alive unconscious with all his body parts attached.

Re: A WFRP 2e Character Builder

It would be great for sure! Can't remember exactly but iirc CC still don't have ToC chaos careers.

Beware that published CC made a mess with career entrie&exits though. There should be a official FFG errata about that aspect. Look around, if you can't find it PM me, I'll check on my old notebook.
