Re: Combat question and -ve SL

Interestingly the biggest issue I had was motivation for the characters. At several points they were asking why they were getting involved. I think starting Genesys characters (using the mod of the game I had concocted) were so powerful, there were other options they could have pursued. Conversely,...

Re: Combat question and -ve SL

Hum. Not sure I follow you. The difference between a winning of -1 and losing of -3 is the same as the difference between winning -3 and losing of -5. Notably +2. Hence you won by 2 SL so do +2 damage (+SB +weapon damage). The difference is always positive. It can only be negative if you roll fewer...

Re: Combat question and -ve SL

Huh, we never thought of adding the negative SL (or the difference between the two failed rolls) as damage... according to the book you're supposed to add the difference you win by to the damage. personally i was going with adding either your roll modifier or the difference to the rolls to the dama...

Re: Combat question and -ve SL

This is correct, with the exception that you STILL failed the actual check for other purposes so if you rolled doubles you still fumbled.

it feels a bit counter-intuitive but you've got it.

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

I think my positions and interpretations of facts, history, culture and society are incompatibles with the north american point of view, so I will refrain myself to post on the topic (or on that subject) more than that. I honestly do not envy North America, seems complicated. :D It's widely underst...

Re: A small barrel of Black Powder

i'm assuming a "small barrel" is more or less watermelon sized for this- Assuming the general average of blackpowder used to fire a gun is around half an ounce (a bit high here i think but they use large bullets in the old world) you would probably be able to wring 80-100 shots worth of powder out o...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

I understand the cynical commercial reasons, I just don't understand how and why a fantasy race could be equalled to earth ethnies. Well, to quote a Moderator in a recent ban on someone at RPG.net: Oher people have mentioned why the treatment of some minorities is mirrored in the way "evil races" a...

Re: How double does the double need to be?

I think you made an assumption and ran with it myself. i always assumed they were running off a very "adult male, average to fit build" kind of description and the PC gets pegged by it mostly for saying/doing something that "tips off" those searching for Kastor they've found him. then again, i alway...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Honestly it can die in hellfire. I want my RPG games to be free of real world politics do what you want at your table but for publishers that want my money keep it fictional. If you want your game product to be some passive aggressive messaging and preaching I'll just pass your product up. I play t...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. From my experience, RGP.net objects to anything that isn't overwhelming enthusiastic support. CapnZap getting banned from criticizing WFRP v4 for example. As I recall, his various bans and warnings ban...

Re: WFRP4 Dodge - When, How, and Why?

the main consequence for using dodge is that you don't have a chance to inflict damage if you win the opposed melee, which is huge. however there's always the possibility that the opponent has a way to reduce your melee, in which case dodge is a good thing to have trained. As far as I understand it...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Where I had said 'Middle Eastern', I should perhaps have specified; over here it's mostly people with roots in Morocco and Turkey, not so much Araby. That being said, the point I was trying to make (and in which I apparently failed) is that all people of Middle Eastern descent are being painted wit...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

What 'new concept'? Mutants being victims of oppression has been a staple of WFRP since forever and is certainly present in the new 4E material. What would invalidate that? Mutants can still be victims of oppression, sure, but they can no longer function as metaphors for RW oppressed groups because...

I'd be wary of the "Orcs=blacks" metaphor unless I was looking to do something really edgy and subversive. D&D is currently undergoing a major overhaul of its races and that's one of the hot-button issues.
i mean they're supposed to be based on irish soccer hooligans more than anything........

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Surely though the fact that different races do actually exist in the Wahammer world might have an effect upon how much people are bothered by differences within a race. the more alike two groups are, the more aggressively they attack each other for their differences. look all all the different sect...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

I didn't think either of us were looking at it from the POV of e.g. an Arabic gamer playing an Arabyan PC in the Empire. I thought we were discussing ways to retain WFRP's gritty social injustice while making the setting more socially progressive. no, i'm saying this isn't functionally possible. yo...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

that doesn't really work from a publisher's viewpoint, though. there's not really any way to reframe racism so that it doesn't reflect racism, that's just devaluing the severity of the problem which isn't all that considerate of people who are being racially prejudiced against. I didn't mean to rep...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

There ought to be some degree of social injustice in order for the setting to claim its "grim and perilous" title. If the default Empire society is progressive and inclusive, then bigots and murderers are pushed to the fringes. I'm just wondering if it might be possible to reimagine Chaos cults in ...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

With the social justice movements of recent years (e.g. LGBTQ, MeToo, BLM etc.) where do you feel WFRP stands (or should stand) in terms of representation? Are you open to WFRP re-balancing racial and gender roles as Age of Sigmar did? How far should WFRP stray from medieval demographic simulation?...
