Re: Combat example

Oh I am not sure I am the one that really wants to pick a fight^^ I am quite happy overall with the game. And I am not trolling other systems forums explaining why they are bad. Having done my share of fighting with orc costume and latex swords I find the combat rules realistic with the added realis...

Re: Combat example

Opposed rolls are not a problem in 4e, they are good. Cumulative adv and +60 bonuses yes but easily fixed. opposed rolls are specifically a problem in 4th Ed., because they're done off a single die roll so there's no curve to balance against. this means both that all things being equal there's no w...

Re: Endeavours from 4th ed

Just adding that the idea is to have an Endeavours phase between every adventure, and to limit the number to 3 even if that downtime is longer than three weeks. Central to the concept is also the random events that not only provide spice (inspiration) on what your character is doing during downtime...

Re: Troll a la Morceaux: A Warhammer Recipe

as great a bit of fluff as we'd expect and a useful intro to an adventure to bring back a suitably live troll.

although i'm not sure what sort of a group is both gullible and brave enough to take that job...

Re: Combat example

- "if you focus on only one skill, you suffer elsewhere". Have you heard of party tactics? Any minmaxer knows that increasing your offense is well worth having a low defense, especially if another team member is there to cover for you. Well that is mostly wrong happily. It goes with the ”min/maxing...

Re: Income & Social Status - Silver/Gold Divide.

the living costs are for maintaining the standard of living, which makes a certain level of sense for gold tier- it's very hard to live the life of a landed noble when you're travelling away from your taxed population. that said, i pretty much immediately discarded the status as a concrete stat. it ...

Re: Combat example

yeah, the WS is king in 4th so the penalty larger foes take to hit is crippling. it doesn't matter too much how you an multiply damage when you're generally gonna deal 0 damage to begin with. i wonder if that's why they pushed the balancing off onto the GMs, it's horribly complex sorting out how a m...

Re: Crafting Rules

i fiddled with making weapons and came to the general conclusion that the game mechanics are too hazy in nature to make any concrete rules for crafting. your best bet for balance and gameplay's sake it to ask them to design what the weapon IS and then assign it properties yourself, the system gets v...

Re: The Twin Tailed.

Continuing with the tangent subject of the twin tailed comet/orb as a symbol of chaos, i notice that @gideon has just posted a blog post: TOPOS: SYMBOL OF CHAOS , at the bottom of which is an "Unpublished illustration of Chaos symbols, by Martin McKenna, for The Enemy Within (1986)". One of the sym...

Re: Resilience and Reslove??

I'm afraid I found the creation of a separate Fate/Fortune mechanic to be a failed experiment. The way Resolve points lets you ignore Psychology for a round means that monsters that rely on Fear and Terror are severely weakened. The way you're supposed to get them back (completing "goals") was an u...

Re: The Twin Tailed.

the comet is a sign of major events in the warhammer world, and we know that the lizardmen and nehekarians used it as a symbol of their gods as well. it's not surprising or terribly damning that the forces of chaos would natrually link it to their own beliefs. i recall there was a snippet in one WFB...

Re: Is it possible to increase the range of miracles with an initial range of touch?

i'm inclined to say "two systems following the same upgrade system share the same restrictions unless they state outright there is a difference I agree with that logic. But I would start with the premise that "the same upgrade system" here is blessings -> Miracles, not Arcane Spells -> Miracles. So...

Re: Is it possible to increase the range of miracles with an initial range of touch?

converse to easl, the rules for magic list largely identical rules for expanding effects under "overcasting" on page 238 and state that a range of touch cannot be extended magic /= blessings and miracles. They're in different chapters in the book and clearly follow different rules. both miracles an...

converse to easl, the rules for magic list largely identical rules for expanding effects under "overcasting" on page 238 and state that a range of touch cannot be extended, which meshes with the description of expanding miracles being done by the range listed (touch + touch is still just touch range...

Re: Combat example

The stats in the book are incomplete- actual skills and talents aren't added yet, partly because they don't have anything to balance them against. this is the reason they're so terribly lacking, as skills and talents make for a huge part of the combat system. while not insurmountable for an experien...

If the core system it was added to was functional they could have made advantage into a useful system, ... This may be a wild proposal. Wouldn't that mean that it may be worth trying the 4e advantage system with 1e or 2e? Did someone try such a thing? as-written advantage is overwhelmingly powerful...

Re: unbalanced races

I'm not a professional game designer, but my proposal - to use a rule invented forty years ago by actually good developers - is objectively better than C7's rushed and sloppy Advantage rule- Not to defend advantage, but "rushed and sloppy" doesnt' apply to it. The advantage system is a extremely th...

Now. I'm not saying that a GM should tune the NPCs to take away all the excellent cool things a player has built their character to do-
-but if you don't it's going to snowball on you because of how the rules work so you kind of HAVE to.

Re: unbalanced races

A human with a stat of 45 vs an elf with a stat of 55 is going to win 40 % of the time - the elf will win 60 % of the time. Except I asked habankm about that, and this isn't the problem he's worried about. He's worried about players playing a human being outclassed by another player playing an elf....
