Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Not sure I buy Hashut being a god of law even within homebrew stuff. Kad'ai fire demons, Bull centaurs, fangs and mass human sacrifice all seem pretty Chaotic to me. Seems like you'd have to write out so much official material there's not much point keeping the name. fractulis is probably not using...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
So the petrification is still related to the resistance against magic, hence against chaos in official publications... Perhaps that it could be said that, in the Immaterium , soul’s desires tend to create chaos gods -desires to get what seem forbid to them, which lead to worship a god whose cult fav...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Hashut is the Chaotic God of Chaos Dwarves, designed by Rick Priestley for Warhammer Fantasy Battle and, in WFB, its cultists tend to be petrified.
Its understanding as a chaotic god of Law is, however, homebrew.

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
On Imperial cults, three kind of cults might be distinguished: - public cults: cults organized by the public powers, to honour gods and to ensure their benevolence, to appease their grievance, and to seek their help in favour of the community. All Old World gods are publicly worshipped, including go...

His mutation might make him looks like gargoyles, such as a "stone skin".
(that would allow him to hide in the cathedral)

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
The earliest men worshiped the Old Ones and were thus polytheistic. Even after the collapse of the warp gates, the winds of change mostly diffuse by the time they reach Nehekhara, so the Nehekharans wouldn't be under the same pressures towards monotheism. The early barbarian tribes would have retai...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
Sorry for that :) There are two reasons for that. The main one is that my English skills are wretched. It is quite easy for me to sympathise in English speakers, to give some instructions in English, to ask for information and to receive them... However arguing on comparative theology and religions ...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
But once you get past that then I think questions like 'would the Empire still have a polythiestic religion?' are a bit strange if they don't directly and squarely address the gods factually existing. This question is directly related to that point: The problem is that polytheism, with it's vaguene...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
It is always up to the game master to master the game, not specifically in Warhammer Fantasy but in every roleplaying game, just like it is up to the filmmaker or the author to set up how things function in their works. Nevertheless, that GM decides to set up unrealistic set up wouldn't make it real...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
( 1. Greek polytheists didn't called their own religion polytheistic neither, nor even did they called other polytheistic religions being polytheistic. 2. Multiple monotheisms tolerant up to the point to recognize others gods as gods is, obviously, inherently impossible. Monotheists believe in the e...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
I may be wrong, but I feel there are two distinct debates in our exchanges: - is Warhammer Fantasy 's Imperial polytheism realistically described as a polytheism? My answer is: no it isn't, because the Imperial society description do not fit for polytheistic societies, but to monolatric's (while cha...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
There are polytheistic societies with henotheistic and monotheistic tendencies. The Warhammer cults are, however, presented as being polytheist but are, in fact, described and understood by rules to be monolatric (and sometime even lightly suggested being henotheistic, with the idea that all gods wo...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
If I indeed agree with you it looks like "monotheism", I feel it is, then, unrealistic as a polytheism, which was, for me, the subject of that thread. (I am not arguing that monotheism couldn't be a realistic religious culture for the Warhammer World , but that, by choosing to present the Old World ...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
So in conclusion and to bookend this post I don't really know what is being driven at when it is noted the pantheon is unrealistic. Is it meant that there are entities that are not worshipped but should be? Do you mean the way existing entities within the Lore are worshipped should be different? Do...

Is The Ritual suggested to happen in a specific moment? Is it no longer set in Delbrez, or is it suggested to happen in Delbrez on the road to Middenheim?

Re: Empire Military Organization
Pratzen's Le Vol de l'Aigle ["The Flight of the Eagle"] is the best Strategy Roleplaying Game I know. The rules are for Napoleonic Wars however, so a good adaptation would need to have some knowledge on Renaissance's warfare, but I'm sure that it might be very interesting to any War campaign where P...

You are right. They weren't originally designed for The Enemy Within campaign. I add them as an introduction scenario, in order to more progressively let adventurers see that things go weirdly at the beginning and in order to introduce earlier the non player characters that are intended by "The Mist...

[previous message have been edited with links] About the solid map, more than one decade ago, I did made this unfinished map: http://maitre.du.monde.free.fr/Jdr/Warhammer/Empire/cartes_reikland.png (The scale is 5 miles to a hex. The image can be zoomed somewhat.) Most of it is too empty (and probab...

Re: Where are you starting the PCs in the 4e Enemy Within?
This is how I might see an introduction to The Enemy Within Campaign : Start in Bakersdorf, a very small village of the Talabecland in the countryside of the city of Volgen, near the Northern Barren Hills. Players are young Talabeclanders, who probably worship with about as much devotion Ulric and S...
