Re: TOBCON V 2023

Well, despite having to reduce the amount of games on both days because of late drop-outs amongst players, I had a great time. Dark Knight's ' The Prince is Lost' was my first game and I found the setting in a beggar court very interesting, as were the plot lines. Unfortunately we weren't able to ex...

Re: TOBCON V 2023

Greetings all! Here you go - the programme for Tobcon at the end of August. The weekend is fully booked, I'm afraid, so those who have already contacted me are the only ones we can cope with. Of course, Shadowcon is also taking place in the same venue, so there will be other gaming opportunities goi...

Re: TOBCON V 2023

Greetings all, Everything is set for TOBCON on the August Bank Holiday weekend.(26th/27th). It looks like we've got enough GMs for three games on each slot on Saturday, with two or three per slot on Sunday, which is not a problem, as we often have less players on the Sunday. If you haven't got in to...

TOBCON V 2023

Greetings all! It's that time of year again when I announce that TOBCON will taking place on the August Bank Holiday weekend (26th/27th). All are welcome to GM or play a game of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. There's not much more to add than that - the venue remains the community centre in Northfields...

Re: TOBCON IV 2022

I had great fun again and all the attendants seemed to as well. I really enjoyed DKotTM's game 'Shaking the Lead' - it was just a shame that we weren't able to delve more into the depths of the scenario provided, opting instead to make off with our lives and a decent amount of wealth. A similar fate...

Re: TOBCON IV 2022

I'll try to firm up the allocations by the end of next week, so do let me know if you want to attend and I'll try to fit you in - there are one or two spaces left. Feel free to PM me!

Re: TOBCON IV 2022

OK folks, here's the timetable. If all attendees let me know their preferred scenarios then I can start allocating players to games - those who have volunteered to GM games will be given priority as a reward. TOBCON 4 Timetable SAT AM (10am-2pm) Shaking the Lead GM: The Dark Knight of the Twisted Mo...

Re: TOBCON IV 2022

Greetings all! OK - we have enough GMs to run a decent amount of slots, so the event should have plenty of games. I'll send the usual round-robin email to the usual suspects, as well as contacting GMs individually, this week. Could GMs start to get me their outlines? Please could I have something to...

Re: Why I think combat is less exciting in v4

It is interesting that combat - something that should be exciting and fast-paced - can become so dull in loads of RPGs. I never got to play it properly, but I always wondered whether 3rd edition had it right, in that as soon as combat starts you sort of switch into another game, bringing in all the ...

Re: TOBCON IV 2022

Several British regulars have responded privately to my emails so we are on course to have a decent number already. I'll write again in a couple of weeks or so. It certainly looks like we'll have Cubicle 7 involvement in the form of Dave Allen! I look forward to seeing everyone again.

TOBCON IV 2022

Greetings all, After a long, lockdown-enforced break, it is my intention that TOBCON IV will take place at Northfield community centre in London this August Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th). Attendees are always a mix of regulars and newcomers, so all are welcome. The event usual...

Re: New Campaign! 'Anarchy in Averland'

Not a bad name. I wonder if C7 will repackage TEW3E as a 4e campaign. Itd be relatively easy and could be accompanied with an Averheim sourcebook. I know you've done some fantastic work in updating 3rd edition adventures to 4th, which is of great value to the hobby. I reckon you should contact Dave...

New Campaign! 'Anarchy in Averland'

Well, it's not exactly a new campaign. Basically, there was endless confusion with my group of players over: 1. The original, Games Workshop, Enemy Within campaign for 1st edition WFRP. 2. The new, 'Enemy Within 2.0' by Cubicle 7 for 4th edition. 3. The 3rd edition epic campaign by FFG, confusingly ...

Re: TOBCON 2021?

I've just heard that Shadow con is running online only this year again, so I'm therefore going to cancel Tobcon too, as there is nothing to piggyback on with ease. Hopefully Tad can run his online con again that weekend. We'll leave it till next year then, when hopefully people can more easily trave...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

Was there anything in particular that makes you think of Wallis/Hogshead? [Edit: or did you just mean Hogshead era, rather than Wallis/Hogshead creating that image?] The Hogshead final part of the Doomstones campaign, Heart of Chaos , I think epitomises the 'blood, shit and misery' approach - it wa...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

I think the Oldenhaller Contract has a pretty good claim on being the start of it, and that's from the original core book. The financial rewards for PCs completing the Oldenhaller Contract were not insignificant. I think, as Robin says, there's a difference between 'grim and perilous' and 'miserabl...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures

The blood, shit and misery approach to WFRP arrived with WFRP2, so that's new school as far as I'm concerned. I've never liked it - grimness and peril is fine, but unrelenting misery and hopelessness, not for me. Anyone can play it that way, and that's absolutely fine, but there's no reason it has ...

Albion - Tir Fradi from Greedfall?

I'm currently playing the computer game 'Greedfall' and have been struck by what a good match aspects of the native culture on the island of Teer Fradee (Tir Fradi to the locals) would make with Albion from Warhammer. From language, dress, culture, religion and even some of the creatures, I think th...

TOBCON 2021?

Things are still uncertain in the UK regarding the unlocking of society and opening up the country to travel from abroad. There is a 'roadmap' type thing produced by the government that seems to imply things should get back to 'normal' by June. That being the case, it is possible that Shadowcon will...

Re: NergalCon 2 from the 12th-14th February

It was good fun, once again. I managed to play in a couple of the Saturday games - both offerings by Rob Rees. 'Hellhounds of Winter' was relatively mainstream (by Rob's standards), using a retro Fighting Fantasy-type ruleset. Pre-gen PCs might have worked better as we stumbled through compiling the...
