Re: TOBCON 2021?
I've just heard that Shadow con is running online only this year again, so I'm therefore going to cancel Tobcon too, as there is nothing to piggyback on with ease. Hopefully Tad can run his online con again that weekend. We'll leave it till next year then, when hopefully people can more easily trave...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
Was there anything in particular that makes you think of Wallis/Hogshead? [Edit: or did you just mean Hogshead era, rather than Wallis/Hogshead creating that image?] The Hogshead final part of the Doomstones campaign, Heart of Chaos , I think epitomises the 'blood, shit and misery' approach - it wa...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
I think the Oldenhaller Contract has a pretty good claim on being the start of it, and that's from the original core book. The financial rewards for PCs completing the Oldenhaller Contract were not insignificant. I think, as Robin says, there's a difference between 'grim and perilous' and 'miserabl...

Re: Reviews and opinions of WFRP 4e adventures
The blood, shit and misery approach to WFRP arrived with WFRP2, so that's new school as far as I'm concerned. I've never liked it - grimness and peril is fine, but unrelenting misery and hopelessness, not for me. Anyone can play it that way, and that's absolutely fine, but there's no reason it has ...

Albion - Tir Fradi from Greedfall?
I'm currently playing the computer game 'Greedfall' and have been struck by what a good match aspects of the native culture on the island of Teer Fradee (Tir Fradi to the locals) would make with Albion from Warhammer. From language, dress, culture, religion and even some of the creatures, I think th...

TOBCON 2021?
Things are still uncertain in the UK regarding the unlocking of society and opening up the country to travel from abroad. There is a 'roadmap' type thing produced by the government that seems to imply things should get back to 'normal' by June. That being the case, it is possible that Shadowcon will...

Re: NergalCon 2 from the 12th-14th February
It was good fun, once again. I managed to play in a couple of the Saturday games - both offerings by Rob Rees. 'Hellhounds of Winter' was relatively mainstream (by Rob's standards), using a retro Fighting Fantasy-type ruleset. Pre-gen PCs might have worked better as we stumbled through compiling the...

Re: Eye for an Eye 4E conversion
I believe Dave Allen has now been taken on by Cubicle 7 as a more permanent employee than just a freelancer. Hopefully that means we may see more 3rd edition stuff converted. - Clive's adventure may be just the beginning!

Re: Eye for an Eye 4E conversion
Maybe given the general response to 3e among large parts of the community they just don't see it as a particularly worthwhile revenue stream, so not a priority. I thought the issue with 3e was all about the rule mechanics and 'component creep', rather than the scenarios. The adventures I've read ar...

Re: Reflections on downtime
I very much like the idea of downtime as an option in the WFRP game - the rules themselves are more open to debate. Many campaigns have the PCs following one lead after another, during which relatively little game time can pass, but the PCs can become very experienced - you could technically have 19...

Re: Eye for an Eye 4E conversion
C7 do own the rights to 3e material, and apparently there is interest from the design team in making it all available in pdf format (i.e. as previously published by FFG, not updated to 4e). But, unsurprisingly, they don't have the time or people-power to do that at the moment on top of what they're...

Re: Eye for an Eye 4E conversion
(Or perhaps that they, more simply, do not own full rights for WFRP3...) They must have the rights, if they already published something else from Edge of Night. The timeline is virtually irrelevant as far as I can see, as I'm not aware the Storm of Chaos (or any other event) makes a big difference ...

Re: Musings on Etiquette
Here's my Etiquette fix: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gorfS8ZXDmlCQbY2Uy4EStRjxpWMWj0BsjS7r82Ms5Q/edit?usp=drivesdk That certainly makes the talent more useful and worth purchasing. I suppose it should require one house rule or the other - something to make it worth spending valuable experie...

Re: Musings on Etiquette
More broadly, as others have noted, 4th edition differs from previous editions in that it starts PCs right at the bottom of their respective career paths. For example, a Soldier PC starts off as a “Recruit” and needs to work their way up to being the fully-fledged “Soldier” they’d have started as i...

Re: Eye for an Eye 4E conversion
Why do you think C7 haven't done more of this themselves? They own the rights to all the 3rd edition stuff, don't they? I'm surprised, is all. If there's one set of products that most grognards don't own (and would therefore buy), it's 3rd edition adventures. I like most of those that I've read.

Re: Musings on Etiquette
I think the Etiquette rules are most important in play when Masquerading in some role or other. Your manners show. Learning the right skills and styles for interaction help with disguise. That's a very good point, actually. I could see why a PC who wants to impersonate someone or infiltrate an orga...

Re: Musings on Etiquette
I think the OP's idea is a good one. I would maybe even lean towards granting the corresponding etiquette talent always at the second level if the first level was completed (so removing the etiquette talent from 1st level careers) to symbolize that the character "arrived" in his profession. Of cour...

Re: Musings on Etiquette
To me this is an inherent feature of the career. A relevant test would be something like an easy (maybe very) Fel test for a solder or an automatic pass for a character with more completed careers. For anyone else, it would be suitable harder and perhaps tested under charm or bluff. I suppose that ...

Re: Musings on Etiquette
I suppose there could be a percentage chance of just getting it at start. I just think these social nuances are mostly something one picks up with time, rather than formally learns.

Musings on Etiquette
I was idly browsing the rulebook the other day when my eyes alighted upon the Etiquette (Soldiers) Talent available for my character (a soldier) to take in the second level of his career. To do so he'd have to spend 100XP and I pondered whether it is worth doing so - a cost benefit analysis, basical...
