Re: Investigator's skills
Some of the Careers are janky. In others, it's intentional that you can gain Talents even without the requisite Skill. You're supposed to buy the Skill at out-of-Career costs or just use the Talent with a penalty for untrained use of the Skill.
In this instance, it might be a mistake.

Re: Maximum SL bonus?
Yeah, and you only get the SL bonus if you *succeed* on your Test (i.e., roll under your modified Skill). Winning isn't enough. This is incorrect. Page 164, under the "Gaining Advantage" paragraph states you gain advantage if you win an opposed roll. It's entirely possible to fail the tes...

Re: Monster/Enemy NPC combat actionz
Weapon (+X) is the same as (SB+X). From their listed Strength and the image or description, you can usually work out what they're supposed to have. So if the Orc has SB 4 and has Weapon (+8), you can assume they have a Hand Weapon. If their Strength increases (and hence, their SB), you can raise the...

Re: Strike to stun
Would Strong Back talent assist with the Str v Endurance test to see if the recipient of the blow to the head is stunned? Adds SL to an opposed STR test Strictly speaking, no. Reading the pummel quality the test is a strength/endurance contest, with the person getting bonked using their endurance a...

Re: Strike to stun
If you're going that route, I would just simplify it even further. So, instead of doing damage, you can declare any attack is an attempt to stun and thereafter, any damage it would inflict after soak is instead applied as an equal number of Stunned Conditions. That way, you're factoring in their Tou...

Re: Talents and SL
Thanks for the reply. Would you allow combining riposte and reversal, e.g. 3 x riposte and 3 x reversal giving +6 SL on successful defensive rolls? This also goes for other defensive talents like reversal and shieldsman. Combining such skills give incredibly small chances of loosing the opposed tes...

Yeah, it's about fleeing. Logically, if it 'makes it impossible for you to escape without a blow to your back', you can just not escape and therefore not take a free attack.

Even £5 isn't that expensive for an adventure these days. In fact, I think it's positively cheap. (I'm also from Yorkshire.)

Re: Aethyric Armour spell
So we have dev clarification on AA and crit deflection. According to Andy Leask, you can deflect and this will reduce the APs on a single location. If desired, the GM can rule that this causes the spell to dissipate, but he felt this would be rather harsh. Allowing a Test (WP or Channelling) to see ...

Re: Rolling a crit in a skill test
There is an optional rule that allows Crits outside of combat to count as an Astounding Success (=+6 SLs). We use that, just because it makes things a bit more interesting.

Re: Rules - Shield use
Then add Melee (Parry)? Melee (Parry) should be the shield user's preferred type anyway. Swap it for another Melee Skill that is in the Career.

Re: Rules - Shield use
Honestly, the shield APs aren't to be sniffed at. Crit deflection is kinda essential in this edition for survival. There's also no penalty if you use Melee (Parry). This Talent also duplicates Ambidextrous, which is strictly speaking more widely useful -- e.g., if you lose an arm, it means you have ...

Re: It's Your Funeral - anybody played it?
I would suggest just looting the adventure for plot seeds. Spread the multiple plots over several different sessions and in difference settings. As others have said, the format gets samey after a while.

Re: Wizard skills/feats
Yeah, it's intentional. You're supposed to stock up on AA at Tier 1 before progressing. Though, TBF, you can ignore Channelling and AA, and still do just fine. It's a better idea to stack Advantage from Dart and then use that to drop a big whammy at the end. Someone wrote a whole article on the prob...

Yeah. Magic is not a new problem, sadly. It's been talked to death but there isn't one easy solution, as people disagree on whether it needs to be more or less powerful, and which parts therefore need more or less juice.

Re: Rules - Shield use
Yep, Parry is harder to come by and the weapons fewer. You can find some more in Forien's Armoury.
Personally, my go-to is Melee (Fencing) with a Rapier and Side-Sword, but there are limited options for that (it's a good choice for nobles, though).

Re: Casting and Advantage
If that rule (causing damage without an Opposed Test) didn't apply to magic, it would be more specific. E.g., 'causing damage with a Ranged attack'. It's broad for a reason.
