Re: Spear and Shield
A short spear is considered a Hand Weapon so it can be combined with a shield. Page 296, Hand Weapons: „ Hand Weapon’ is used to describe any of a number of basic weapons that, though different, are assumed to be effectively the same in-game, including swords, axes, hammers, maces, short spears, and...

Re: Sigmar's hammer, Ulric's axe, Verena's sword
I disagree. A term ”warhammer” in the Miracle is a generic term and not the Game Term (definition on page 7) since it’s written with small letters. Warhammer as the 2-Handed weapon is the Game Term. That means any warhammer can be used in that Miracle, one-handed , two handed , mounted or not. Same ...

Re: Strong back abd strike to stun
RAW and RAI confirmed by Andy Law, If the Opposed test is Opposed Melee / Melee , for instance the Disarm Talent, the defender is not allowed to use Dodge or anything else but the Melee Skill to defend/oppose it.

Re: Strong back abd strike to stun
RAW no. Opposed Strength Tests are , as Hyarion pointed out, Strength versus Strength Tests, and not Strength versus something else. This was confirmed by the devs. Even more , RAI the Stun to Strike rules were supposed to be rewritten before the book hits the stores, but that didn’t happen. Perhaps...

The Talent uses your Action, so unless you can attack as a Free Action or by using the Furious Assault, you can’t attack more in your Turn, which is then over.

Re: Monster/Enemy NPC combat actionz
Adversaries in the Bestiary have one Move, one Action and Free Actions at their disposal, similar to the PCs. They can Charge, Attack, disangage, use Deathblow etc. up to what the GM chooses. They can also activate Free attacks by spending Advantage via traits such as Horns , Bite, Breath, Vomit etc...

Re: Investigator's skills
You can always discuss it with your GM and for instance train Research with endeavour if your GM thinks it fits. Since it is an Advanced Skill and you need at least one Advance to be able to test it. Lore (any) or any Skill (any) means you can pick one specialization and that choice is locked for th...

Re: Strike to stun
Size Rules should apply since it says „OpposedStrength tests or similar”. Other than that I also allow the Strong Back talent to give SL to the test. The Strike to Stun is already strong enough (no penalty to Called Head hits AND +1SL / level to successful Melee when striking to stun) . No need to b...

Re: Strike to stun
1. Yes. The talent bonus is good to have to get extra SL in the opposed Test and thus for more damage, but won’t give you bonus to the Opposed Str/Endurance. And it is Characteristic vs Skill test, typically Skill is much higher than the Characteristic, so the defender can have the upper hand and if...

Re: Strike to stun
1. RAW, the hit is resolved first as normal. Then you attempt the Opposed Str/Endurance from the Pummel quality. 2. It’s not that clear in the RAW, but since it is an opposed Test, you will lose all Advantage when losing it. I would rule either use Advantage and lose Advantage, or do not apply Advan...

Re: Talents and SL
That’s the RAW and the whole point of advancing few levels in appropiate talents. However if you are afraid this will swing the balance in combat without a need to constantly adjusting combat powers of the NPCs, you could for instance limit Talents to max one Talent level per Career level but give t...

Yes, he does, by rolling egual or under his Skill of 60. He wins the Opposed Test by +1SL, scoring +4SL (+1SL from the Test, +1SL from the Precise and +2SL from the Riposte) against Grorix’ +3SL, and can deal damage via Riposte. However , the Precise quality doesn’t give +10 to the Test, but +1SL to...

Re: Aethyric Armour spell
Short answer - no. Long: Normally a wizard can increase Range, AoE, Targets or Duration of the spell by its initial value listed in the spell. Some spells have additional options in the spell description. Since Additional AP is none of the default Overcast options, and it is not listed as an extra O...

Next time he rolls a double on the Casting test, tell him that the ingredient didn’t work, it was not consumed, and then proceed rolling on the Miscast Table.
Petty Spells do not require ingredients.

Re: The Beast Form spell
Your spell description seems to be missing a part of it. The last sentence in my book reads: ”If you have lost any Wounds when the spell ends, you lose the same number of Wounds when you revert to your true form, to a minimum of 0 Wounds.” This should answer question 3. Any Critical suffered when in...

there is no „parry” skill in 4e. in the unarmed combat PC / NPC use Melee (Brawling) or test WS if they don’t have the skill And yes they can „parry” or rather defend against attacks. A character can make a defensive test or what you call „parry” in the opposed Melee test using whatever Melee skill ...

Yes, he may oppose any Free attack as normal. Unless the defender is fleeing, in which case it is unopposed.
