Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

During the summer break I got together with Aenlinn's player - who had missed a bunch of sessions in the spring due to having a baby - and a guest player and ran a short adventure about what happened to Aenlinn and her cousin, Käte the coachwoman, during her time away from the main party. The recap ...

Re: Origins of the Gods.

Regarding the Lovecraftian influence on Warhammer's Chaos, I'd say it's mostly indirect - by way of the Call of Cthulhu RPG, mostly. Shadows Over Bogenhafen, which became an extremely influential and tone-setting WFRP adventure- ...what? like, seriously, what? it bored everyone to tears whenever an...

Regarding the Lovecraftian influence on Warhammer's Chaos, I'd say it's mostly indirect - by way of the Call of Cthulhu RPG, mostly. Shadows Over Bogenhafen, which became an extremely influential and tone-setting WFRP adventure, famously began with Bryan Ansell telling Graeme Davis to write a Call o...

Re: The Enemy Within to come...

Re Bretonnia: the very brief writeup in the WFB 3rd edition rulebook suggested a late-Renaissance Bretonnia similar to what's described in 1E WFRP. Then, Warhammer Armies (still 3E WFB) gives us the first medieval Bretonnia - though it's still not Arthurian, but rather something like later Hundred Y...

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

I finally finished updating the blog I've been working on to document the campaign. It contains the same recaps I've been posting here, plus some brief notes on the backgrounds and characters. From now on I'll be posting the recaps there and linking them from here. https://theenemywithinremixed.word...

Re: Reworkings of The Oldenhaller Contract?

Thanks for helping out, everybody. In the end I decided to put together another scenario, but if I should return to The Oldenhaller Contract later on this will all be very helpful. :)

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

Season 2, Episode 7: The House of Herzen The second battle of Schwarzspitze Before the brigands could leave, there was another ruckus. Their leader Schneider was going to execute the wounded brigands that couldn’t be brought along (to preempt them selling him out to escape the gallows); Wernhart st...

Re: Reworkings of The Oldenhaller Contract?

Thanks for the input, everyone. :) That other game conversion of the adventure https://grimandperilous.com/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-conversion-the-oldenhaller-contract/ And if I have some time later I'll post some extra rants about the adventure flaws... Thanks. And I'm always interested in a good...

Reworkings of The Oldenhaller Contract?

Over the summer break in my ongoing TEW campaign I'll be running a short side adventure for a player who was absent during much of the spring, as a "flashback" happening during her character's absence. I'm currently leaning towards basing its climax roughly on The Oldenhaller Contract. Now, I vaguel...

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

Season 2, Session 6: The Battle of Schwarzspitze Most of this session was taken up by the fight with the brigands who were occupying Schwarzspitze (Black Peaks), the home of Etelka Herzen. As we picked up where we left off, the adventurers quickly tried to get their bearings. Apart from the woman f...

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

It's all good, although maybe a bit more like Warhammer meets Discworld than just Warhammer in the stricter sense we have now. As others have said, Drachenfels is probably his best Warhammer novel. Indeed. At his best - as in Drachenfels - Kim Newman's writing style comes across as somewhere betwee...

Re: Rough Nights & Hard Days

I wrote some thoughts on RN&HD on the 1E fans Facebook group that spilled out into a whole review. Here's the relevant bits: Judging from a read-through only so far, I really liked this. It does feel very much in the spirit of the classics, but with modern production values and unobtrusively moderni...

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

Season 2, Session 5: Dmitri While Marike and Courage were off doing something else (1) Zima and Wernhart continued their enquiries in Grissenwald. They thought to visit the town’s sole apothecary, who indeed turned out to know Etelka Herzen as one of his best customers – she would buy various ingre...

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I'll just pop in to second the recommendations for Drachenfels. It's great stuff: both a good story in itself, a fun gothic horror pastische and an interesting riff on stories and storytelling themselves. Of course, it's wildly out of sync with the later Warhammer canon (and played pretty fast and l...

Re: Town garrison/militia, and WFB

If I were running a larger skirmish or battle - next time I see that coming up is when/if my players storm Castle Wittgenstein with the outlaws :) - I'll probably be using a more abstract mass-combat system. My favourite so far is GURPS Mass Combat - I've already done a conversion of it to my BRP-b...

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

To be honest I was working at the time so while I ran the Restless Dead I only really ran the sections that I had 2E conversions for already, except for Horror which is not well regarded. I retrofitted the excellent Warpstone adventure One Minute to Morr, as well as the 3E magic boxed set adventure...

Re: Enemy With Shadows Details

Well, in fact, the conclusion of "The Oldenhaller Contract" suggest that player characters might flee Nuln toward Bögenhafen in order to play "Shadow Over Bögenhafen". "The Oldenhaller Contract" was presented as a potential initial introduction to that scenario, before "The Mistaken Identity" was p...
