Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

It's all good, although maybe a bit more like Warhammer meets Discworld than just Warhammer in the stricter sense we have now. As others have said, Drachenfels is probably his best Warhammer novel. Indeed. At his best - as in Drachenfels - Kim Newman's writing style comes across as somewhere betwee...

Re: Rough Nights & Hard Days

I wrote some thoughts on RN&HD on the 1E fans Facebook group that spilled out into a whole review. Here's the relevant bits: Judging from a read-through only so far, I really liked this. It does feel very much in the spirit of the classics, but with modern production values and unobtrusively moderni...

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

Season 2, Session 5: Dmitri While Marike and Courage were off doing something else (1) Zima and Wernhart continued their enquiries in Grissenwald. They thought to visit the town’s sole apothecary, who indeed turned out to know Etelka Herzen as one of his best customers – she would buy various ingre...

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I'll just pop in to second the recommendations for Drachenfels. It's great stuff: both a good story in itself, a fun gothic horror pastische and an interesting riff on stories and storytelling themselves. Of course, it's wildly out of sync with the later Warhammer canon (and played pretty fast and l...

Re: Town garrison/militia, and WFB

If I were running a larger skirmish or battle - next time I see that coming up is when/if my players storm Castle Wittgenstein with the outlaws :) - I'll probably be using a more abstract mass-combat system. My favourite so far is GURPS Mass Combat - I've already done a conversion of it to my BRP-b...

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

To be honest I was working at the time so while I ran the Restless Dead I only really ran the sections that I had 2E conversions for already, except for Horror which is not well regarded. I retrofitted the excellent Warpstone adventure One Minute to Morr, as well as the 3E magic boxed set adventure...

Re: Enemy With Shadows Details

Well, in fact, the conclusion of "The Oldenhaller Contract" suggest that player characters might flee Nuln toward Bögenhafen in order to play "Shadow Over Bögenhafen". "The Oldenhaller Contract" was presented as a potential initial introduction to that scenario, before "The Mistaken Identity" was p...

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

I've finished my read-through of the adventures section of The Restless Dead, and thought I'd throw down some brief thoughts on them, and what use I might find for them personally. Not sure if it's useful to anyone, but there you go. :) General: As I've already said above, I think Carl Sargent's wor...

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

I think what is particularly weird is it feels like in Restless Dead they couldn't change the adventure text, so the notes often contradict the published adventure. While it makes for somewhat clumsy reading and reference, I actually kind of like this in that it gives a very transparent insight int...

Re: Enemy With Shadows Details

Some of the encounters are from the Restless Dead/White Dwarf. I'm not familiar with the Pandemonium Caravan, and when I ran Restless Dead I skipped the Hidden Jewel - is that the one that purports to be an alternative star to TEW? The Affair of the Hidden Jewel is a lightweight swashbuckling adven...

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed: NPC Portraits (fanart, kind of)

I haven't got a lot of drawing done for a while, but here's a new piece: the in-game portrait of Etelka Herzen (and her cat) the PCs may find when visiting her house in a session or two. https://theenemywithinremixed.files.wordpress.com/2019/04/etelka_herzen_portratt_ram3.jpg Etelka Herzen and Schat...

Judging from what I could find by way of the Wayback Machine, this seems to contain the same text.

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

As someone who is pretty amazed by the amount of work and thoughts you're putting into your own TEW campaign, I doubt I can add any thoughts of value to you, but I'll try. Now I'm feeling a little bad. I probably sounded much harder on TRD than I meant to. :) Actually I quite agree with your points...

Looks like a pretty wild ride! Are the new PCs also fated to descend into Chaos and madness?

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

I'm not reading many opinions on The Restless Dead, so let me know if you need more advice on it. I'd be curious on your thoughts, if nothing else. :) Reading through it myself now. The stringing-together of the originally unrelated scenarios for the mini-campaign seems like classic Sargent - cleve...

Re: Your opinion on Thousand Thrones and Restless Dead campaings

I've only looked very superficially at The Thousand Thrones , but Joseph Manola has a good utility-focused review of it here as part of his (very readable) series on WFRP: http://udan-adan.blogspot.com/2018/10/bringing-down-hammer-part-10-thousand.html Make sure to read the comments too, as the disc...

Oops! No. I meant to put a link with that but apparently I missed it!

Here's the art I borrowed: "Dark Plague" by Ruslan Schifonic

Re: The Enemy Within Remixed, Season 2: Death on the Reik (campaign report)

Season 2, Session 4: The journey to Grissenwald As the PCs sailed on from Wörlitz in the night, Wernhart tried a risky operation to save the life of the badly wounded Lorbeer, but it failed and the prisoner died without regaining consciousness. This got to Wernhart heavily, especially since he was ...

Re: Lizardmen in WFRP2

Gideon's adaptation of the old D&D adventure Night's Dark Terror for WFRP features an ancient tribe of lizardmen, servants of the Old Slann, surviving forgotten in a hidden valley in northeastern Kislev.
