Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
I'm intrigued by the Graf's Garden Party. Does it bear any similarities to the similarly named event in WFRP3's The Enemy Within ? Well, the format is somewhat similar, there are a number of NPCs bickering with each other, and there's a hedge maze (but no escaped monsters hiding in it this time). I...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
I completely get your point - there's always a risk with Warhammer that writers get so wrapped up in creating interesting NPCs that they forget about GMs and players discovering or interacting with the stuff that makes them interesting. It's more of an issue when you're dealing with the powerful NP...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
My only gripe is the idea – obviously tempting thought it was – to make Nastassia and Brünhilde each other’s nemesis/archenemy. It’s another instance of the bad Warhammer habit of making everything about the cool NPCs. That was my doing. I wanted to give Nastassia a flaw, because otherwise she's at...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
The odd thing is that Power Behind the Throne makes several references to Middenland and the duchy of Middenheim being separate entities, and Nordland rather than Middenland being ruled by Middenheim in 2512 (as well as heavy foreshadowing about Nordland separatists). That could all be a matter of ...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
Some impressions after a quick read-through of the Power Behind the Throne Companion: First off: the tagline “The essential companion for campaigning across Middenland” is completely misleading. There’s pretty much nothing in this book about Middenland, let alone campaigning across it. It all focuse...

Re: Middenheim: City of the White Wolf
Also, since apparently now one of the four viaducts to the city actually comes down from the mountains, it might make sense to also make this an aqueduct collecting water from various mountain streams, rain and snowmelt. Though I was also intrigued that the new Power Behind the Throne seems to descr...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
Here's my first thoughts on the new PBtT after a first read-through (cross-posted from the GMs group on Facebook): Short impression: Very close to the original, more so than I had expected. Longer thoughts: First, of course, the book is very pretty as we’ve come to expect from C7. My favourite piece...

Re: Middenheim: City of the White Wolf
A new revision of the PDF is now posted. The 400,000 figure for the population is indeed a typo with an extra zero. Heh, that's actually unexpected good news. :) I was sure they were doubling down on their absurdly huge numbers. Of course, having 40,000 people live on top of a big rock plateau with...

Re: Enemy Within Updates (plus other stuff)
My preferred fix for the personality change of Boris Todbringer from 1E to 2E is simple: in the "canonical" timeline, Wasmeier's plot was successful and the Graf was actually replaced by an imposter. Thus they seem like very different people for the simple reason that they are different people. I su...

Re: Middenheim: City of the White Wolf
How many months after death on the reik would this be released? Extrapolating, could christmas 2021 give us empire in ruins? Not that I would rely on the target dates given by C7... We haven't had any release date on Power Behind the Throne itself, have we? It was some 9 months between Enemy in Sha...

Re: Travel times for Death on the Reik
And to make things even more absurd, the Enemy in Shadows Companion suggests ridiculously fast traveling speeds - something like four times the actual reasonable rates (like 112 miles a day on horseback). I have no idea what's going on here.

Re: Rules for sailing on the Rivers
A fairly bizarre decision, IMO. All the addition of the first half of "Carrion Up the Reik" does is end the adventure on an anticlimax rather than on the epic climactic raid on Castle Wittgenstein. In the meantime, there are simple and workable if slightly clunky sailing rules in the 1E Death on the...

Re: Letter question (Enemy Within spoiler)
I don't thinks there's any implication that Gideon knows or cares about Kastor Lieberung or the Purple Hand at all. From page 54: "At this point the Characters have no idea of how or why the bounty hunter died, but they may have the opportunity to find out later in the adventure. Gideon, the Daemon ...

Many months later, I finally found time to post a more proper review of sorts on my campaign blog.

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?
The original pantheon is plainly a quickly hashed-out D&D-style pantheon based around the needs of an adventuring party rather than a society. I found it didn't work for me - especially since the world didn't otherwise look or act like a polytheistic setting - so I rewrote the religions heavily for ...

Re: How double does the double need to be?
In a world without photographs, people don't need to look particularly identical to be easily mistaken for one another. That said, I'd say it all depends on what you're going to do with the plot. (I'm not expecting the new version to give us anything juicier than the original on Kastor Lieberung.) I...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. From my experience, RGP.net objects to anything that isn't overwhelming enthusiastic support. CapnZap getting banned from criticizing WFRP v4 for example. As I recall, his various bans and warnings ban...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
A bit more on this: As I said, it is not a given that people accumulate enough mutations to flip to the other side. And in official materials there are enough examples of mutants who are not dangerous, and who if anything, deserve protection and sympathy, instead of destruction. Master Lukas Pfandl...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation
Personally I think WH witch hunters are a similar case. Robert E Howard might not have intended misogyny with Solomon Kane, but given the general public's association of witch hunts, it's a bad look for videogames etc. to be parading Witch Hunters as one of Warhammer's ironic heroes of Order. There...
