Re: Custom minor deity concept: Pharos, God of the Dark Light

I should note that future versions will probably have Pharos be a bit harsher as I told my GM I intended for him to be a fairly harsh god, but not outlawed or evil like Ahalt or Gundred. ***** I like the dark light concept. I think the 'Light and Dark' miracle should offer an improved chance of noti...

Custom minor deity concept: Pharos, God of the Dark Light

This is a little something I proposed to a GM in our group. When we try the Enemy Within to 4th edition I wanted to play a character associated with this minor cult. I'm throwing it up here for some feedback before I submi a final version to the GM for approval. Pharos https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic...

This is the most fake news ever (intended as a joke, if someone would miss it). :P

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Just a thought to add to all the interesting points all of you made: Comparing to real world gods makes sense, but there is a big difference: in the old world you can assume these deities exist in some way. Miracles and the Warhammer rules prove it. In the real world we do not have that strong argu...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

I mostly agree with Capitaneus Fractus in his points, although I would add that most species, cultures etc. probably have a few divine actors of their own to turn to in addtion to the gods that are worshipped across the lines. In addition I don't see why pretty much every god could not have lax, mod...

Re: Is Imperial polytheism realistic?

Hi everybody, we do not have many examples of real societies that would be as technologically and culturally advanced as the Empire and practice polytheism in some of its major variants, so the question of realism might be invalid from the very start. However, when one looks at the Imperial pantheo...

Re: Guild membership

As I said, I have a ton more on guilds in WFRP, including detailed systems on the economics, training, careers, etc. If there is interest, I could write it up in future. I would love for some more material on guilds. And perhaps even on criminal organisations. In fact, especially on criminal organi...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

Fair enough, you know your group a lot better than we do. 🙂 If I were to go this route myself, I’d be inclined to have all the PCs be members of one specific Cult (e.g. you’re all Yellow Fang, or all worshippers of Ahalt) to bind them more closely together, but YMMV. This is certainly a possibility...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

[Even in "Enemy Within" so far we've had one Khorne cultist, one Slaanesh cultist and a Chaos Dwarf and the party didn't fall apart and we didn't indulge in random acts of "Stupid Evil" activity. We did even have the Khorne and Slaanesh cultist in the same party, along with a ze...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

I think that a party such as you are advocating would collapse fairly quickly, as Herr Arnulfe predicts. Theft, torture and murder pale quite quickly - I believe cartoony type villains have a chance to last longer as PCs, such as Skaven or Goblinoids. Having said that, one could take each player as...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

Based on my experiences playing evil campaigns, TEW would be far too long for a thought experiment. Most of the satisfaction of playing an evil PC comes from entertaining the other players with your interpretation. Players don't tend to derive much enjoyment from committing evil acts in-game. Based...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

You seem to have divided the Empire into 'forces of Order' and 'forces of Chaos', of which i'd say (even in fourth edition) the majority of the Empire's populace, including the sample PCs given in the original TEW, do not belong to. Further, in so far as they exist, the 'forces of Order' (aka Solka...

Re: Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

To the members of the Honorable and Fraternal Order of the Extremely Irate Water Buffalo, a very sophisticated Chaos cult, the Purple Hand is nothing but a bunch of amateurish hacks who risk too much. If they succeed, they risk bringing more witch hunters to the area (who might accidentally find/ex...

Thought Experiment: EW with bad guy PCs

This is something that I've been thinking a little about. I am currently playing EW for the first time with my group and so haven't read the whole campaign. But I still wanted to discuss the following scenario of playing this, and possibly other, campaigns from a bad guy perspective. I have no curre...

Re: Minor deities or local forms of major deities?

Thanks guys, I think I know how to proceed. I'll try to obscure the metaphysics for the players and add a political dimension with two factions, one that want the cults to be minor and see controllable by members of the elite and a faction that wants to see them either folded up or brought in under ...

Re: Minor deities or local forms of major deities?

Yes, it may have been the long-winded but the basics I want to get the answer; Is it more common/normal to go with aspects of major deities or minor deities? I know I can do as I wish, but I thought that I should check some other perspectives in before my decision on this.
