Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I took a quick look at the Lexicanum and, from a potential ignorant perspective, it seems to me that Malus is probably a pretty nasty piece of work, but it seems he's primary positioned in the Chaos Wastes and Chaos-influenced north and so put against various creatures of Chaos and thus don't come ...

Are they proper nasty or the "good evil" kind?

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I skipped the prologue of Drachenfels, started Beasts in Velvet.

What a difference compared to Zaragoz! It feels like Warhammer from the get-go. Cannot yet be sure it will be better than Zaragoz, but at least I feel it will be a lot more entertaining.

Re: Town garrison/militia, and WFB

Between the field of glory and pendragon's options it sounds like the dude's set for however much influence the players need to have on the battle. That said, i've never had to handle these sorts of things because my group's always contributed in the manner of "fire a few shots off and flee the fie...

Town garrison/militia, and WFB

Found Return of the Lichemaster, and leafed thru it. The "massed" battle reminded me of a scenario I ran which had the characters use 3rd edition Battle rules (stats mostly) when fighting off Skaven surrounding a burial mound. So this is, kinda, to expand on that. The gazetteers list population cent...

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

While its not essential to read the Jack Yeovil stories in any order, the following, I think, contains the correct chronology: 1. Drachenfels (Prologue) 2. Red Thirst 3. The Ignorant Armies 4. No Gold in the Grey Mountains 5. Drachenfels (Main Part) 6. Beasts in Velvet 7. Stage Blood 8. Cold Stark ...

Re: Riding hell for leather, possible house rules?

Yeah, I read about endurance riders. Hundred miles is a lot of ground, but not super fast. Was thinking of True Grit, Cogburn killing the horse getting the girl to a doctor. Interwebses say a horse can gallop for three miles. Change to canter, and you can go fifteen (with a few short pauses). During...

Riding hell for leather, possible house rules?

Hey, anyone know of any good rules for really pushing the horses? Trying to get away from pursuers, and the other way around. The poor beasts will eventually perish, but no idea how long they can go.

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

It seems I have Beasts in Velvet, so after I finish Zaragoz (and Lovecraft Country) I’ll read about dangerous animals in finery.

Re: WFRP: more Europe than US?

Can it be the setting plays a role, too? It is quite Eurocentric compared to more freeform fantasy worlds which there are plenty. (And Warhammer can sometimes feel like a dank inside joke, which I don’t think is the best to write things in most cases.)

WFRP: more Europe than US?

This is not to start a fight, I am just wondering if anyone has any info on how different editions have sold, and where.

In the US Xbox has sold more than PlayStation. And Sega was bigger in Americas compared to Europe, I have understood. Are there similar differences with roleplaying systems?

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I'm not sure Gotrek and Felix are in Doomstones. They're definitely more WFB than WFRP as the two tend to be more pulp untouchable heroes. They're slaying avatars of gods and are gifted immortality and useful magical items over and over. The Settingslayer is in Doomstones, at least in the version I...

Re: App Recommendations?

While having a laptop around when playing can be a good thing, I have not felt the need for such an app. Never even occurred to me. Pen and paper and an eraser has worked for us. I can see use for such a thing if and when things get massive, but have not yet run into a situation like that. EDIT: And...

Re: Warhammer novels, and short stories

I’ve been under the impression Gotrek and Felix were more Battle than WFRP. Could well be because I first saw them in an army book.
