Re: How double does the double need to be?

I think you made an assumption and ran with it myself. i always assumed they were running off a very "adult male, average to fit build" kind of description and the PC gets pegged by it mostly for saying/doing something that "tips off" those searching for Kastor they've found him....

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Honestly it can die in hellfire. I want my RPG games to be free of real world politics do what you want at your table but for publishers that want my money keep it fictional. If you want your game product to be some passive aggressive messaging and preaching I'll just pass your product up. I play t...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

To be fair to RPG.net, they'd object to that too! They're very even-handed on this sort of thing. From my experience, RGP.net objects to anything that isn't overwhelming enthusiastic support. CapnZap getting banned from criticizing WFRP v4 for example. As I recall, his various bans and warnings ban...

Re: WFRP4 Dodge - When, How, and Why?

the main consequence for using dodge is that you don't have a chance to inflict damage if you win the opposed melee, which is huge. however there's always the possibility that the opponent has a way to reduce your melee, in which case dodge is a good thing to have trained. As far as I understand it...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Where I had said 'Middle Eastern', I should perhaps have specified; over here it's mostly people with roots in Morocco and Turkey, not so much Araby. That being said, the point I was trying to make (and in which I apparently failed) is that all people of Middle Eastern descent are being painted wit...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

What 'new concept'? Mutants being victims of oppression has been a staple of WFRP since forever and is certainly present in the new 4E material. What would invalidate that? Mutants can still be victims of oppression, sure, but they can no longer function as metaphors for RW oppressed groups because...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

I'd be wary of the "Orcs=blacks" metaphor unless I was looking to do something really edgy and subversive. D&D is currently undergoing a major overhaul of its races and that's one of the hot-button issues. i mean they're supposed to be based on irish soccer hooligans more than anythin...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

Surely though the fact that different races do actually exist in the Wahammer world might have an effect upon how much people are bothered by differences within a race. the more alike two groups are, the more aggressively they attack each other for their differences. look all all the different sect...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

I didn't think either of us were looking at it from the POV of e.g. an Arabic gamer playing an Arabyan PC in the Empire. I thought we were discussing ways to retain WFRP's gritty social injustice while making the setting more socially progressive. no, i'm saying this isn't functionally possible. yo...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

that doesn't really work from a publisher's viewpoint, though. there's not really any way to reframe racism so that it doesn't reflect racism, that's just devaluing the severity of the problem which isn't all that considerate of people who are being racially prejudiced against. I didn't mean to rep...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

There ought to be some degree of social injustice in order for the setting to claim its "grim and perilous" title. If the default Empire society is progressive and inclusive, then bigots and murderers are pushed to the fringes. I'm just wondering if it might be possible to reimagine Chaos...

Re: WFRP Social Justice & Representation

With the social justice movements of recent years (e.g. LGBTQ, MeToo, BLM etc.) where do you feel WFRP stands (or should stand) in terms of representation? Are you open to WFRP re-balancing racial and gender roles as Age of Sigmar did? How far should WFRP stray from medieval demographic simulation?...

Re: WFRP 4 analysis

one of the key details to remember is that some players will choose not to concern themselves with the exact math, but not all. the players that are interested in mathing this stuff out, however, are the players that most often cause problems with a game. this may lead to one of the players having d...

i'll try to summarize effectively: -blast x three means everyone in three yards of the target struck takes the damage of the attack. it's not clear if it's three yards in radius or diameter but both are pretty large. -there is no damage done to targets in the path of the shot but not inside the blas...

Re: Size question

if the monsters are worked through like the example player races at the beginning, then the stats have already been adjusted. that said it's a crapshoot with C7's work so i'd math out their wounds to be sure on if it's been done or not.

Re: 2nd -> 4th ed. preparation.

Okey thanks - but why ever use "walk" when you can allways (run) as a Move for the double amount (and then use your Action to sprint on top of that if needed)? On page 165, core rule book, it says: "This means if you have Movement 4, you can normally move 4 squares." Below, in &...

Re: 4th: timeline, campaign and play order?

it's.....not impossible, but most/all of the adventures in the campaign are written from a "your guys are relative unknowns in the world and no-one suspects a chaos plot right now". as high-level heroes right after the chaos invasion you're gonna want to put some time aside beforehand goin...

Re: Ghosts of nonhumans

There’s a dwarf ghost in Empire in Flames I think. If I remember correctly, one was a 'friendly' NPC but were there also wights and wraiths, too? A dwarf liche, also. I wonder how that will be changed in the reboot? i think you're thinking of the dragon crag book. which was kind of.......shoddy in ...

Re: 4th ed. combat question - Fighting several opponents

for the player trying to use multiple attacks: run it like a normal turn, then if you are able to trigger the other attack, conduct the second attack as part of the same action during your turn if not required to take it otherwise as the conditions of the bonus attack. since the system is built for ...
