Re: The Twin Tailed.
The inaccurate caption in my blog post is down to me. Martin McKenna just called the picture 'Parchment and Symbols'.

Re: The Twin Tailed.
It occurred to me that i've never, to my recollection, seen mention of the similarity between Tzeentch's twin tailed symbol and Sigmar's twin tailed comet. Has this ever been discussed or used before? Is there any official mention of the similarity? It came to mind because i've just read Phil Galla...

Re: The world's oldest RPG in the old World
Arneson may have used Chainmail and the Fantasy Supplement for his Blackmoor games, but Chainmail and the Fantasy Supplement were written as wargames, not RPGs. I personally don't think think there's a good case for seeing them as the first RPG (and I don't think I've heard that suggested before). T...

Re: Roughs Nights and Hard Days Impressions/Review
Are you sure it's not partially based on its first/second edition namesake? I did a word search for various terms from @Braddoc's review posts for the PDF of the second edition version and Countess Emmanuelle von Liebewitz (not 'Grand' in the PDF of the second edition version) and a cultist are in ...

Re: Roughs Nights and Hard Days Impressions/Review
It sounds like the original 'Night at the Opera' was a different adventure that just happens to share a title with the new one:

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
If I was writing the campaign, I’d specifically avoid mentioning dates. If I was editing it, I’d be sure to remove them. The problem is that there are dates mentioned. The handouts refer to Jahrdrung amd Mitterfruhl, and they only work with the adventure as written if you use a start date of 24 Jah...

I'm with you, but there's no point fighting it, if it leads to misunderstanding.

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
This new version seems clearly aimed at harmonizing the old TEW, originally written for a partially quite different setting, with the later developments of the Warhammer lore. This will, inevitably, mean that since the tone and themes of early (1E) WFRP and later versions are in some respects very ...

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
I was interested to see the changes to [t/T]he Crossed Pikes map. It's a definite improvement to have the furniture drawn in, and to have some contrasting colour and substance given to the furniture and staircases. I think the in situ labels on the first edition map and the fourth edition key both ...

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
@FasterThanJesus You've given me pause for thought about my numeric scores in reviews. I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to summarise the diverse starting points of users with just a pair of numbers. That's better done in the text. So I've decided to go revert to unscored reviews and ...

Apologies to anyone who has tried to post comments on my blog post. There appears to have been a bug in WordPress which turned comments off for this post. I have fixed the problem now:

Re: Enemy in Shadows: Thoughts and reactions
You might be right about the "grognard brackets" score, though I do aim to use a broader range of scores than most probably do (65 is defined as a "good" rating). Plus I'm a tough audience!
I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Re: Cathay sourcebook?
Hi again, Would anyone know where to get the Cathay sourcebook which was floating around some years ago? Thank you. If you mean the draft of Tetsubo (which was for Yamato, a Nippon equivalent, rather than Cathay), the authors have removed it from download, as there is a commercial version being pro...

Re: Contradiction?
So what do you think about my clarification (for my benefit). Like, this is what I've type up in my FAQ / Clarification document for future reference. " If you have the required XP, you can change career whenever you want. That said, it isn’t just about paying the XP, the change of career must...

Re: Contradiction?
As i read it the rule, or guideline, as you will, is that a character does need to complete their career in order to choose one of their career exits. (Though i take Gideon's point that this isn't quite explicit i think it was the intent.) Graeme Davis was explicit in 'Onwards and Upwards' that tha...

Re: Contradiction?
It seems clear to me that the idea was to allow player characters to change career if the opportunity presented itself in the course of the adventure and if it made sense that the player character could take on that career.... I think this is a really important point. Regardless of what the rules s...

Re: House Rules
Here is an updated list of my quick-and-dirty fixes for WFRP1: Character generation The starting profiles and skills are very unbalanced. I don't think they should be completely evened out, but as they stand they are extreme. My solution is to modify starting profiles as follows: - Elves: WS-10, B...

Re: Contradiction?
There's definitely contradictions here and quite a few too. I think the rules are actually pretty consistent, though they might not immediately seem that way, and they certainly could have been expressed more clearly. Page 91 "...characters are not allowed to change careers during a session of...

Re: Contradiction?
This was explained by Graeme Davis in ‘Onwards and Upwards’ in White Dwarf 89: “In some cases, you have to complete the career (ie take every advance form the advance scheme and acquire all the listed skills). In others you don’t have to stay in a career any longer than it takes you to earn the 100 ...
