Nice to see it's officially announced, although none of the questions arising from the dev diary are answered. In fairness, I doubt they've been formally put to Cubicle7, and it's probably some way off yet.

New scenario released, too: WFRP Ubersreik Adventures - Mad Men of Gotheim.

That artwork, particularly on the Companion, looks excellent.

Yes, the cover artwork for the Companion is my favorite since C7 take over the WFRP licence!

Seems a bit early to be announcing this honestly. wonder what their goal is....

They've also announced Middenheim City of the Wolf and Altdorf City of Sigmar as city sourcebooks, not part of the TEW perse, but definitely of use during the campaign and beyond

The post doesn't actually seem to be a product announcement, but just a preview of the cover art. That's probably why details are sparse. There are a couple of interesting nuggets, though:

1. "This adventure is significantly expanded, making it the largest adventure so far in the Enemy Within campaign." It sounds like it might exceed the original 160-page plan. I'm relieved to hear this, as I think PBT needs significant expansion, but I doubt it would be possible in 160 pages.

2. The companion is presented as a guide to campaigning "across Middenland".

I presume their goal is to continue the product newsflow and maintain interest.

Where did you pick this up?

They were announced in the first developer diary released for TEW. There was next to no info though.

I mentioned it in one of the other threads: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=69

Yes, @FasterThanJesus did mention it before.

To be honest the Dev Diaries are a very strange way of marketing and releasing information that really can only benefit C7 if it's in the public domain, but that's just me....

To further add to the rumour mill Andy Law had this to say about the Power Behind the Throne Companion's tagline as a Middenland sourcebook...

It's an imprecise tagline. I'll probably change it. It's not really a Middenland source book.

I hope they release a contents list soon to clarify exactly what we're ggetting, as if it's not a Middenland Gazetteer (which makes sense, PBtT extends solely to Middenheim, not the surrounding countryside and Carroburg), but we're also getting a new full-colour Middenheim sourcebook what exactly is in the companion?

I suspect Grapes of Wrath will be in the companion - it was originally meant to be a loose-tie-in to Power Behind the Throne (you can make contacts that'll help you in Middenheim if you play your cards right).

Good, good. Now after Enemy Within we only need a sourcebook for Bretonnia and perhaps a small campaign set in that part of the Old World and it will make my decade. :)

I should get on with my Perilous Realm Bretonnian campaign then, set in Quenelles and Athel Loren. :D

Please do. I'll be looking forward to it. :)

EDITED: I've got an idea to set the "Path of the Damned" campaign in Bretonnia by moving the plot and characters and stuff there, but that's still in the conceptual stage and it would be nice with a proper campaign originally and intentionally written to either be set in Bretonnia, or be played with Bretonnian characters. As yes, you can adapt, but that takes extra time and effort. And especially when socities works so different as between the Empire and Bretonnia.

There was an official campaign, set just after The Enemy Within (in 2515 IC), announced in three parts (among whom, only the first one was published by Descartes Éditeur, the historical French publisher of WFRP1 who held rights from Games Workshop not only to translate Games Workshop, then Flame, then Hogshead books but also to publish its own Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay books). This campaign was called Les Architectes de la destinée ["Architects of Fate"].

-The first part, titled Pour la gloire d'Ulric ("For Ulric's Glory", edited by Hervé Schneider and published in 1995), started in Middenheim, for a Spring carnaval. It detailed an Empire under the wealthy rule of Heinrich X, which started a diplomatic mission toward some Norscan tribes united under the rule of Gustav, a norscan king faithful to Olric. This book had a review in Warpstone #3.
The PJ were part of the diplomatic mission which take road to Marienbourg, where some adventures happened, and then did go to Norska where the first part ended. A good part of this volume presented the Empire in 2515. Another part describe Marienburg (which is of very few value now that it was described into the WFRP1's Marienburg supplement).
As I've said, it was set after The Enemy Within but was intended for new adventurers. I would have preferred to have it set for the Hammer Heroes as it could anyway make perfect sense, for them, to be send in an imperial embassy in a Norscan realm. Anyway, it was mainly a prologue and without the following episodes, it is itself of few value.

-The second part was intended to happen in Norska, where the confrontation with Chaos might had lead to a significant return of allegiance from the adventurers (I presume: adventurers will sort of convert to Chaos [perhaps to chaos renegade, or to order?]). There is a draft of it, which is mainly a norscan sourcebook with very few value now that it was described into the Tome of Corruption, WFRP2.
Would I had contributed to wrote this part, that I would had made it a "Sea Life in the Sea Claws" adventure, astride between Norsca and Albion. Inspired a bit by events of the Dark Shadow campaign in Albion, and a bit by the Strom of Chaos in Norsca... With the idea to help Norscan chiefs to rally Gustav against Archaon, through a mainly "political" plot.

On Bretonnia:
The third and last part was intended to happen in Bretonnia, where the impotent king Charles is manipulated by his prime minister, the grey eminence of all plots up to now, who happen to be an horned rat cultist.
Would I had contributed to wrote this part, that I would had suggested to inspire a bit from the Picochrolian War (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picrochole), from French Wars of Religions (and the novel Fortunes de France), from the affair of the poisons, the man of the iron mask, and from the life of Gilles de Montmorency-Laval, baron of Rais, in order to set up the fall of king Charles and its decadent court and the rise of king Louen and his corrupt but fierce companions. Also presenting the cult of the Lady of the Lake as a manipulation from Asrai. The kidnapping of children made by Asrai with the complicity of Louen Leoncoeur, a great knight and a glorious war hero, make him, by the way, the closest character to Gilles de Rais ;)
Bretonnia is, anyway, best set in a very early 16th century France inspired setting, like the Empire, than from a 13rd century setting (like it is since WFB5) or from a 18th century setting (like it seem to been in WFRP rulebook).

Sounds cool!

Although I would be bit mindful of the The Thousand Thrones campaign because it sounds a bit like this is a bit all over the place with such drastic changes of setting. If everything can be tied together, then I'm sure it would be great, but if not then it migth feel fragmented.

You are perfectly right, although I feel the unity of place might be preserved if the place is the Sea of Claws (and a bit of the Sea of Chaos) -so parts of the adventure in Bretonnia are mainly set into Lyonnesse, Languille and Couronne- and the unity of action can be to if -and it is the case in the first volume- the plot root to Bretonnia since the beginning.

I think the new post-TEW campaign that Cubicle 7 have announced sounds a little like the exploratory campaign that Pour la Gloire d'Ulric was supposed to posit.

(As an aside C7 announced a campaign that will see the PCs visit Lustria and Ulthuan, which is being written with Gav Thorpe - a prolific Black Library elf-book dude).

Wait... Where did Cubicle announced a post-TEW campaign? I did miss that...

(My blurry memories of Gavin Thorpe, from my Fantasy Battle era's adolescence, come with a quite... infamous taste. I no longer remember why, but I seem to remember that he was quite despised by French Warhammer grognards. Is he any good writer?)

More to the point, does this mean we'll get an Elf source book?

I know nothing about this either...

I think Gavin Thorpe is an okay author, but I mostly think of him as WFB and a bit more high fantasy.

i know ol' gav doesn't like bretonnia any and he has some......outspoken opinions regarding how the elven cultures actually work. it's possible he looked a bit like he was punishing any french elements in the game since they're almost all in those two factions.
