Do you get to choose talents from previous career path levels when you advance or do you only get to take them when you are currently at tgat level of your career. For example, if i am in the witch career and am level 2 (witch), can i take the menacing talent from the first level hexer?

Thank you.

Only your current career level. See page 48:

"Talents are only available when you are in the level of the Career that lists them. So, if you are an Apothecary-General, you can only buy Talents listed under Apothecary-General, not those listed under Apprentice Apothecary, Apothecary, or Master Apothecary."

Skills and Characteristics from earlier levels of your current career CAN continue to be advanced, however (that's on page 47).

Note also that the 'changing career' Endeavor makes it pretty easy to acquire lower level talents. Using your example, let's say you started off as a Hexer, met the career requirements to advance to Witch, and then advanced. But uh oh, you now decide you want Menacing. How to do it? Well, you spend your first downtime week on 'changing career' to go to Hexer. You buy your talent. You send another downtime week on 'changing career' to go back up to Witch, which is free because you've met all the requirements. Is this cheaty? I dunno. As a GM I'd probably allow it, because while your Witch is spending 2 downtime weeks in order to acquire the talent, the rest of the party is earning income, or crafting, or training, etc...

pay attention to the fact that both "career change" endeavors there are free, not simply the re-promotion. you can also enter a lower career level at any time for 100 XP, (page 48-9) which is handy if you're in a rush there or you want take the talent but you don't have any time for endeavors to get it.
