Enemy Within Rewards for nonhumans.

As C7 starts to update and re-release The Enemy Within, my gaming group is planning on running the campaign since none of us have gone through it before.

It is my understanding that by the end of The Enemy WIthin, the PCs have attained pretty high station within the Empire. Some could be the Emperor's Champion, or the head of a magical college, they're all Knights Panther if my memory serves.

As the title suggests: What would an appropriate reward be for a non-human PC? Should non-human PCs even be considered/allowed?

EDIT: I have learned that the ending of TEW could be quite different, which is news to me. How would you handle rewards for non-human PCs for the old 1e version of TEW?

Bear in mind that of the five fourth edition Enemy Within campaign parts the fourth and fifth parts are expected to be new, or so heavily rewritten as to be effectively new, whilst the third part, and perhaps the second part too, is expected to be rewritten to some degree, with the possibility of some significant differences. It might be reasonable to expect the PCs to end up with the kind of status you're referring to, but it really is entirely possible that the PCs won't. We simply don't know what the entire second half of the campaign is actually going to look like in anything but broad brush strokes.

I was unaware of that, so I greatly appreciate the information and have edited my post. How would you handle rewards for non-human PCs in the old 1e TEW?

Original TEW ending reward options were really generous. Simple, but pretty good reward, could be just title (minor nobility, knighthood), little lands somewhere, and huge amount of money. And off course medal for being Champion of the Empire.

Yet, anything can happen. Even Protector of Talabecland or Marshal of Ostermark would probably be noble human, why not non-human - Legendary adventurer and Champion of the Empire. Probably good rewards for non-humans would be one of the Midden Marshals, High Wizard of Middenheim, Master of Hunt, Ambassador.

But, as said, the new ending of the campaign might be little different than it used to be, as many of the things can't really go same way.

I'm not actually sure. I suppose it depends on how elves, dwarves and halflings are viewed by humans in your version of the Empire. Also, as i recall, these promotions you're referring to served both as rewards and as a means by which the PCs could be bound to the commands of the Graf of Middenheim, via oaths of obedience and loyalty. The only positions i can think of for non-human PCs that might serve a similar purpose are diplomatic posts, which could be created for them. I'm struggling here though. I think a reason the pregenerated PCs were mostly human is because of difficulties like this. If the party is mostly human then any non-human PCs can caught up in the human politics via their human companions.

if memeory serves they're "knights panther*" in the sense they're offically recognized by the odrer but they haven't....you know, done all the training and aren't so popular with the regular knights for the most part. as it is, i'm certain that if for some reason the players can't come up with a reward to request in private after all the pomp and office is done away with some matter like sending their nation the head of state's personal thanks and willingness to hear any matter through them as an honored envoy or offering to step in on a matter between the PC's family and the empire on their behalf would be not bad and if all else fails offering them gold, trade goods of value back home or some previously contested land rights would do. unless they're a slayer. slayers are a bit hard to reward in general though so whatever.

that said, halflings are pretty much human for most political purposes so appointing such a champion a high office wouldn't be out of line and would allow them a good chance getting all sorts of moot-related adventure shenanigans no matter where they go.

nothing says fun like catching the adventurers in the mountains of mourn with a halfling messenger asking them to intervene with the ogres they're trying to avoid over trade routes!

Maybe they could be in a position to request political concessions in favour of their people rather than a personal reward? That might be interesting (and quite possibly spark new conflicts).

If I remember rightly, one of the available rewards was an ambassadorial role, which may be useful to non human characters. Of course, how this fits in with existing official appointments could be interesting...
